Ileostomy
The ileostomy is a surgically created intestinal
diversion that allows stool to be eliminated directly from the small intestine through a
stoma on the abdomen. The colon, or large intestine is bypassed completely. The stool from
the ileostomy tends to be liquid and contains digestive enzymes. This type of stool is
especially harsh on the skin, therefore a well-fitting pouching system is vital to keep
the skin healthy. |
