Leukeran
Leukeran is a chemotherapy drug used to treat certain types of leukaemia and cancer.
Leukeran is in a class of drugs known as alkylating agents; it slows or stops the
growth of cancer cells in your body. The length of treatment depends on the types of drugs
you are taking, how well your body responds to them, and the type of cancer you have.
Leukeran also is used in the treatment of Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, polycythemia
vera, trophoblastic neoplasms, ovarian carcinoma, nephrotic syndrome, and various other
diseases. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this drug for your
condition.
Leukeran is a Bone Marrow Suppression:
There may be a temporary reduction in how well your childs bone marrow works,
which means he or she may become anaemic, bruise or bleed easier than usual, and have a
higher risk of catching an infection. Your childs blood counts will be checked
regularly to see how the bone marrow is working. Please tell your doctor or nurse if your
child seems unusually tired, has bruising or bleeding or any signs of infection.
